Neiman Launches Cusp
Remember my recent post about Neiman Marcus’ new retail concept called Cusp? Well, WWD reports that Cusp debuted its first store today at Tysons Corner in McLean, Virginia.
Breaking away from Neiman’s posh image, the first Cusp store features an open floor plan with a raw and edgy feel, with the atmosphere intended to attract a younger demographic that is hip and trendy:
Exposed duct work and concrete floors give the 9,500-square-foot store a raw quality that’s just this side of edgy. Metal chain-link curtains and stacked planks of wood form backdrops for products, and folded-up jeans and accessories are wedged into the grooves of wood. In one vertical display, ready-to-wear hangs from tree branches. In another, handbags dangle from the ceiling, attached to pieces of rope that can be raised and lowered. Elsewhere in the store, tires are used as props in the denim area and a smashed Porsche serves as the base for a glass-topped table.
In keeping with the concept, sales associates are called “stylists”. And instead of advertising, a blog will be launched in the next few days. Hmm. Have they considered myspace?
In two weeks, another Cusp store will open in Century City in Los Angeles. I’m sure I’ll be there to check it out!

[...] Blog on the Cusp was quietly launched a few weeks ago to coincide with the recent openings of Cusp, Neiman Marcus’ new retail concept. The blog gives the Cusp girls’ perspective and features interviews with up and coming designers like Susie Crippen of JBrand and Philip Lim, wardrobe ideas from Cusp stylists, items from the salesfloor, and anything related to contemporary fashion. It also dishes about celebrity news, like speculation on Kate Moss being engaged, that is not fashion related at all. Also, it’s not well organized and doesn’t seem up to the minute with style trends. We’ll give them a break shall we, as the blog is still quite new and the Cusp girls are most likely busy at the store. I did get the information that I was seeking and it’s that Cusp is opening in Century City, Los Angeles on August 23rd. And like I said, I’ll be sure to check them out! [...]
