Still A Bit Scared of Skinny Jeans

After my trip to the Target boutique (doesn’t that sound incongruous?) I shimmied over to Barneys New York to check out J Brand jeans. I’ve been planning to get a pair but decided to test drive them first. Skinny jeans are probably on their way out yet here I am just plucking up the courage to even try to them on. I like that J Brand has clean pockets and how they’ve categorized their jeans by leg opening: 10″ Skinny, 12″ Pencil, 14″ Cigarette and 16″ Straight Leg. So simple and logical!
So I try on a pair of 910 Skinny and they are snug and fit like a glove. The stretch is forgiving on a pear shaped body like mine. It’s been years since I last wore skinny jeans and they are definitely something to get used to again. The SA recommended going one size down since the fabric stretches when washed. I was scared when I tried it on. This is what I saw on the top left photo. They didn’t have my size in ink so I tried a pair in black. They look like leggings with a bit of structure. Still not decided, I tried on the 912 Pencil. Again, they didn’t have my size in any denim wash so I tried the gray which is pictured in the top right photo. The fit is not as snug but it’s still skinny.
I also tried on Acne jeans, a Swedish brand that also has plain pockets. I found the fit not flattering to my pear shaped body. It would look better on waifish types, I think. I also tried Tsubi but they only had a limited supply and no plain pockets.
I took pictures to help me decide on fit and wash. After sitting on it for two days, I ordered a pair of black 910 and a 912 in ink at Revolve Clothing. Thanks to styleminded, I got 15% off with coupon code JT and free shipping too!
Update: This offer at revolveclothing is even better. 30% off! For first time customers only. Grrr! I could have saved $50!

I like the 910 on you as well. Are you going to hem them or do you like the hem scrunched up like that? Looks cool, too. I like your shoes, too, btw, what kind are they?

I agree. the 910s look better on you!

oh you’re so cute! I’m in agreement with everyone that the 910s look great on you. Good choice and glad I was able to help.

thanks for the coupon code, styleminded!
shelly – i forgot to answer your question. the 910s have a 29″ inseam and the SA told me to wear it scrunched by the hem like in the photo.

Did you go down one size? I usually wear a size 26 in stretch jeans (True Religion, AG, Paige Denim), and I’m not sure if I should order a size 25 or 26…
August 22nd, 2006 at 10:32 am
sara – jbrand is true to size and the stretch is only 2% so i would get a 26. i usually get a 26 too but my waistline has expanded a bit. i was going to get a 27 but the SA said to get 26, which was a bit snug in the 910 black. i hope this helps.

Thanks! That really helps. I’m going to order the 12″ Pencil in Gingerbread, from Revolve Clothing. Both pairs look great on you!

Hi, do you (or anyone…) know where I can find J Brand jeans around the Boston area or just in what stores they sell them? I like the jeans but I would like to try them on.
Thank you.

how did the 910 turn out for you? i recently just got on in ink too and am contemplating returning them just because they are really tight and not too flattering for me… do the legs stretched out a bit after your wearing them? i have a feeling if i go one size up it would be too big…
September 27th, 2006 at 10:22 pm
yes they are tight but they stretch out. i think the tight fit takes a little getting used to. i like the 912s better though.
September 28th, 2006 at 9:06 am
you like the 912 for the fit? did you order a size down? sorry for the question bombardment…
September 28th, 2006 at 9:44 am
i like the 912s because *gasp* they have a higher waist and i don’t feel as self conscious in them. but i like the 910s too as everybody seems to have complimented me when i’m wearing them.
September 28th, 2006 at 11:53 am
i actually like you in the 910 better too…
but i also didn’t like the 912 in the color pictured above, so who knows.
September 28th, 2006 at 5:26 pm
i guess terms of fit, the 912s are more “forgiving”. i also got it in the dark rinse (?) so its not as bad as the gray ones pictured above.
so did you return the 910? what did you end up keeping or getting?
September 28th, 2006 at 9:24 pm
i might just keep the 910 for now actually… hehe after replying to your earlier comment today i went and tried my 910 ink with various outfits and think it might just work for me… haha (no, i really was productive after that) i originally got the 910 due it’s shorter length, so maybe i’ll order a pair of 912 sometimes to compare the fit, but i hate hemming my jeans…
