On Wearing Yellow
Seeing this Tod’s bag from The Bag Hag reminded me about adding the color yellow to my wardrobe this spring. This is a really nice shade of yellow, yes?

As I mentioned before, the color yellow is not something I automatically gravitate to. I’m not shy about wearing red, fuschia or even orange but, yellow? Hardly. A quick peek in my closet will reveal only a few items in this color: two or three tops and a pair of Charles David shoes from many years ago. So obviously, it’s a color that I have to consciously choose to wear.
So lately, I’ve been considering how to work it into my wardrobe without regretting it. I guess the first step for me would be to wear yellow as an accessory. Shoes or handbags come to mind immediately. So aside from the Tod’s D bag pictured above, I would probably go for this Goyard St. Louis (or a Croisière that is still calling my name).

I could go for this canary yellow patent Fendi B Bag but it’s just not me (the color and the bag). It’s really nice though and would work well for those who are not shy about toting yellow.

I spied these Steve Madden ballet flats that would work well with most of what I already have in my wardrobe. If I get it, I’ll be wearing this with skinny jeans and a white loose top. This shade looks a bit anemic though so I’m still on the lookout for other choices. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

A yellow travel envelope from Henry Cuir might just fit the bill if I decide that a handbag is too much yellow for me and a punch of color from a tiny item would do.

Another way that I think could work this color is by choosing pale shades or by pairing yellow with white.

These strapless dress and paisley tunic from 3.1 Phillip Lim are sumptuous. The saffron yellow of the strapless dress on the left is pale and safe enough for me. The yellow accents on the buttons and trim on the paisley dress on the right introduce the color in small doses.
I also love this paisley blouse from Paul & Joe. I guess if I could only have one yellow clothing for spring, this would be it or the yellow Rachel Pally dresses I posted two days ago.

As for color, I am attracted to this shade of yellow as well, although I cannot even begin to tell you what the name of this particular shade is. These are the Layla dress and gown, respectively, from Rachel Roy.

Finally, pairing yellow with black or gray and/or in prints as seen in the Milly shift dress will work fabulously as well.

For those not shy about wearing yellow, this mustard and black floral print shift dress from Diane von Furstenberg will be perfect for spring. At first I shielded my eyes from this high contrast combination but now it’s beginning to grow on me. I think I like it!

So I guess seeing all these pretty things has warmed me up to the color yellow. I’ll still be looking around for more yellow items. I’m sure I won’t be buying a whole lot of it and wearing it head to toe this spring, as you shouldn’t anyway. At least, now I have an idea what I’m looking for and I just might start with some of the pieces that I posted above.

[...] Here’s a fast fashion find submitted by an eagle eyed reader. On the left is Diane Von Furstenberg’s Cerisier shift dress, featured here a couple of months ago. It’s new for spring and retails for $325. On the right is the Sabrina dress from Forever 21 that retails for $32.80, a mere fraction of the DVF dress. The only difference that I can see from the pictures is the neckline. [...]

[...] Remember this dress? The shopping savvy Budget Fashionista reports seeing this Diane von Furstenberg shift dress at the DVF outlet at Woodbury Commons in New Jersey. Ooh la la! I’m curious to know what color she saw and how much it was (I asked and I’m waiting for her reply). I’m thinking it would be the one on the left, as the mustard and black print on the right. **checking out the phone number to Woodbury Commons** [...]
