What Would You Wear to the Golden Globes?
FabSugar posed this fun question recently: Let’s pretend we’re going to tonight’s Golden Globes awards show: what’s a girl to wear? Now I’ve got the Californian laid back style down pat, but who doesn’t like dressing up once in awhile? I readily took to the challenge.
So let’s assume that I have to walk the red carpet , I have no stylist and I have less than 24 hours to come up with my outfit. That leaves me with limited choices, so no bespoke gowns for me. Let’s also assume that I am tall and statuesque because the outfit that I came up with requires such proportions to carry it well on the red carpet.
First off, I started looking for the dress. I chose this floor length tiered gown from Carmen Marc Valvo because this was the best that I’d found so far since I started looking. I would have preferred something lighter but remember my contraints? At any rate, since I’m tall and statuesque (ahem), I think this midnight blue strapless gown would look fantastic on my killer bod. The pleated satin, black lace tiers and blue streaks make a great combination.

Now I thought I would go for a diamond bib necklace or chandelier earrings made of precious stones. But I remembered this Christy Turlington photo from American Vogue. I could not resist this black multi pendant swing necklace from Bea Valdes, nevermind that necklaces are hardly worn on the red carpet anymore or the Fug Girls might get on my case (”What is she wearing?!?”). This exquisite handmade bead encrusted necklace is a statement piece that deserves to be worn on the red carpet and if I have to be the first person to do it, then so be it (haha, this pretending is getting too far eh?). People in the know, like socialite and designer Rachel Roy, will approve.

The Bag Snob girls gushed about a similar piece. This Aliche Nero wristlet, also from Bea Valdes, is luxurious enough and goes nicely with the outfit. And I have to add, it’s easier to carry than a clutch.

My ears would have to be adorned but simple enough not too detract from the necklace. So I’ll be going for something sparkly but simple like these diamond studs on platinum.

To add a bit more sparkle on an otherwise dark ensemble, I chose this 9.10 carat diamond Harry Winston watch. It’s functional and decorative at the same time.

As for shoes, strappy heels would have been better but time is running out. I’ll settle for one of these two from Christian Louboutin.

This black crepe satin with black chiffon shoes called “Mouche” have towering 125 mm heels (that’s almost 5 inches!). Love the peep toes.

The Decoltissimo is much more manageable at 100 mm (4 inches). They add a bit more sparkle to a dark ensemble.
As for hair (boy, we’re really taking the idea and running with it), I’d go for a sleek chignon like the model in the photo above. And with that, I am done. I need to go get my beauty rest now. The hair and make-up people are arriving in an hour!
