Similar, But Not the Same

March 28th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Fashion

I noticed the similarities between these dresses a month ago but I somehow missed posting it. On the left is the Diane Von Furstenberg Artichoke Print Dress from Spring 2006, on the right is the Lily Pad Dress by Marimekko for Anthropologie. Not the same. Just similar in color. Marimekko’s prints are quite distinctive. It’s great to see both creations be original on their own right.

Diane Von Furstenberg Sues Forever 21

March 28th, 2007 | 17 Comments | Posted in Fashion, News

When I posted the Cerisier knock-off last week, I wondered “What would Diane do?” Now I know. As reported by WWD:

Diane von Furstenberg Studio filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Forever 21 Retail Inc. late last week in Manhattan federal court. According to legal documents obtained Tuesday, the company alleged Forever 21 has sold dresses that infringe on its Cerisier and Aubrey designs.

The picture above shows the DVF “Aubrey” on the left and the F21 “Pinecone” on the right. I thought the F21 version looked vaguely familiar when I first saw it but I couldn’t quite place it.

Thanks to Julie of Coutorture Media for featuring this story!

Rachel Pally Summer 2007

Photos of Rachel Pally’s Summer 2007 collection are now available online. It’s refreshing to see a lot of new looks every season that gets me excited. The first time I saw Rachel Pally’s line, I doubted the clingy, stretchy fabric called modal would look good on me. But Rachel, who is a former dancer, knows what flatters a woman’s body and designs accordingly. Her clothes are incredibly comfortable and flattering!

Hello Yellow

March 27th, 2007 | 5 Comments | Posted in Fashion, Trends

Look what I found at the J.Crew store that I called last week and that said they had sold out of the saffron Cynthia:

A saffron Cynthia hanging on the rack by its lonesome. And in my size! Yummi Sushi must be laughing at me right now because two months from now, Forever21 will have the same exact color and style and I’ll be kicking myself because it will be a fifth cheaper than this one. Yes, for the quality I say it’s overpriced. But I really like it and it’s better than paying more on eBay. So of course, I got it.

How funny, the pieces I bought this weekend are mostly embroidered. I got this, this and another yellow top from F21. I look at them and they’re all wrinkly and look like something I would just wear at home. But the prices did not make me think twice.

And look what I got in the mail today:

My birthday isn’t til next month and I haven’t shopped there in ages. Do they have anything in yellow? Just kidding.

M by Madonna for H&M

I stopped by H&M in Pasadena to check out the M by Madonna collection two days after it debuted. I wasn’t keen on anything specific from the line. I just wanted to report back on what I saw and observed. First off, the whole section of M by Madonna was well stocked. The photo above shows the sequined dresses that sold out in some stores. There are still a lot in this store and I didn’t see anybody pick them up while I was there. Almost every item from the collection was available except for the turbans, which completely sold out in this store. Another thing I observed was that people did not linger long in this section. People checked the goods then moved on. Catwalk Queen’s post echoes my observations and sentiments exactly.

What did I like? The clutches in silver or black were a nice surprise. They are cute for a night out on the town. It’s got a slinky hidden strap. It’s tiny though and will only fit a lipstick, a tiny compact and some dollar bills. I tried on the kimono dresses. They are OK but are cut so low in the front, I had to think hard as to when I could realistically wear them. The patent stacked heels are great. But as usual, they didn’t have my size.

Cute Dress From Zara

What is it with me nowadays? Everywhere I look, all I can see is yellow. I go to a store and pick up only yellow clothing. I guess it’s a refreshing change from all the black I’ve been wearing all winter.

Spring Cleaning

March 24th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Beauty, Miscellaneous

I just threw out a ton of skin care products that I haven’t used in years. I don’t even remember when I last used Clinique. Their skin care line never worked for me. The jars of cream were still full. My friend said I should have just returned them as soon as I knew they didn’t work for me. I didn’t know you could do that. It must have been nine years ago that I last used them. What?!

And so it’s out with the old and in with the new for me this spring. My friend just sent me more Shu stuff. Check out those fierce lashes at the bottom right.

Shiny Red Things

March 23rd, 2007 | 6 Comments | Posted in Covet, Handbags, Shoes

Lately, I’ve been attracted to red patent shoes and handbags. This is possibly due to my conscious decision to wear yellow this spring and, not being ready to go whole hog on yellow, wanting to pair it with red and silver. Go figure. I don’t know how that came about. But I do like red. So even without yellow, my eyes would have been drawn to these beauties anyhow:

OK, I’ve bashed Louis Vuitton before but this Brentwood in vernis leather is pretty. And how can you not love this color called pomme d’amour (French for “love apple”)? I know I’m not getting this though because stubborn me has already set my eyes on a non-patent red leather bag and I already have a red Houston.

This Marni Balloon Bag in the colors Fire and Cigar looks like a fun bag. It’s made of varnished leather (another term for patent) with calfskin corners attached with studs. It’s already sold out but stock will be replenished soon. The large is too big at 23.4 x 18 inches though. ShoppingNerd bought the mini (lucky gal!) and it looks like a manageable size for me. Now if only I could get my grubby hands on one! If not, I’ll stick to Plan A and get the red leather bag that shall remain nameless for now.

I just spotted these Belle by Sigerson Morrison ‘4325′ Flats today. I love the contrast white piping. They are on pre-order at Nordstrom and will ship in two weeks. Unfortunately for me, but happily for my wallet, sizes start at size six (did you know that my feet are small?).

Same thing with these Belle by Sigerson Morrison ‘4319′ Flats. They look so cute, don’t you think?
