The FEED Bag

Here I was planning to purchase my next designer handbag when I discovered the FEED Bag via FWD last week. Designed by model and socialite Lauren Bush as part of her duties as an honorary spokesperson for the U.N. World Food Programme (WFP), proceeds from each 100 percent organic FEED bag will feed one child for one full school year. When I read more about the the cause it supports, tears welled up in my eyes and before I knew it, I was clicking away and ordered one from Amazon.com. It took exactly a week to receive my FEED bag. The price of each is US$59.95 and includes a US$34 donation to WFP, enough to feed a single child in school for one year.
Here’s mine in all its wrinkly goodness:

Sorry for the quality of my photos. The FEED bag is sturdy, reversible and made out of natural burlap on one side and cotton canvas on the other. It measures 14.5 (W) x 16 (H) x 6 (D) inches. The handle drop is 10.5 inches. The canvas side has pockets – two on each side and one generous pocket in the middle. I’ll be wearing this with the canvas side out. Here’s Lauren Bush wearing her FEED bag:

More about the Feed Bag:
19 cents is all it takes to feed a hungry child at school. Last year, the World Food Programme provided meals for 16 million children at school. We need to do more. Three hundred million children around the world are chronically hungry. School feeding acts as a magnet, dramatically increasing enrollment, sometimes by as much as 300%. It also improves performance at school. Children concentrate better on a full stomach. Girls who go to school not only marry later but have half as many children than illiterate women. Furthermore, these children are healthier and better educated. 19 cents a day or 34 dollars a year can transform a child’s life and provide the tools for a lifetime of self-reliance. School feeding is a simple but effective way to beat hunger and poverty.

Thanks for the specs. This will be my next purchase as well.
I was pussyfooting a bit b/c amazon doesnt have any of the detail u gave.
I just wonder if the inside or the outside of the bag is likely to get grubby faster and therefore which way to use it.

^i too am a bit iffy with the material. i haven’t worn it out yet. my preference for wearing the canvas side out is that my skin tends to prickle with the burlap material. maybe i can use a pillowcase inside to mitigate the dirt factor.
