Girlshop To Close

April 18th, 2007 Posted in Fab Shops

WWD reports that online boutique pioneer Girlshop.com is shutting down operations after almost a decade in business. The Fashion Informer quotes Girlshop owner Laura Eisman as saying, “All our staff was let go over a month ago. We’re basically run out of business by all the online competition.” Word is that Eisman has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. There is nothing on the Girlshop site to indicate this but it appears that operations have shuttered for good. A comment on this blog notes that “I have been trying to reach them for a month. Their phone numbers are all disconnected and no one will respond to my emails.” Racked reports that the online store stopped accepting orders two weeks ago but that the brick and mortar store in the Meatpacking District is still open with a liquidation sale scheduled for this Thursday, April 19 running through Sunday, April 22.

Gah! No! I was hoping it wasn’t so! I’m probably gonna need a support group to get through this.

Are you kidding? This is such sad news! A decade ago when they launched, I was in my ’20s and lived by their funky selections! I have not shopped there in a few years but still loved buying for my son from totshop. thanks for the report!

That’s really depressing. I noticed they haven’t gotten anything new online since like early March. I loved every they had on the site, but I can see how hard it would be for a website with a boutique-vibe to compete with giants like…shopbop.com. :-( Girl Shop will be missed.
