Mike&Chris: Post Your Goodies Here!
I’m a bit bummed that I went home empty handed from the Mike&Chris sample sale today. I arrived at around 10:40 AM and on my way up, a guy who works for M&C said it was chaos upstairs. People came at 9:30, doors opened at around 9:50 and the leather jackets were scooped up immediately. If you’ve been to a M&C sample sale before, you’ll know that the place is small: approximately 12 x 20 feet, not including the curtained off area. Add to this space 50 excited girls/women and it got pretty warm and claustrophobic for me. I literally ran out to get some fresh air!
Not without trying of course. I saw my coveted Bailey on one lucky gal. Everybody turned to look at her when I asked her if it was the Bailey. More than one girl said she was looking out for one too. I would have stalked her but she quickly declared that she was getting it so that was the end of it. Someone tipped me off to stay by the racks by the curtains as stock is constantly replenished. But as I witnessed, the racks were immediately emptied soon after. I did not spot my beloved Grayson, only the similar Niko and not even in my size or the color I wanted. There were lots of $10 and $25 deals from the Fall 2005 season. Nicole, who was there too, kindly posted the prices here for anyone interested.
But enough of me, what about you? Post your goodies here! Here are more comments that were posted earlier today. Thanks for sharing!
By the way, the parking lots behind ANJAC Building are reserved for a movie production for the next few days. I was unable to park on the side of the building either as I came late. There are more parking lots on Broadway and 9th. So plan accordingly. I turned the wrong way while looking for parking and drove all the way to 5th Street before returning back in the right direction. Now if I was smart I should have said “Yes!” when the parking attendant asked if I was part of the movie production!

i ended up finding a light pink grayson in the defective bin! man, it was nuts in there. i am still trying to recover.
shopdiary: there was a defective bin? i didn’t even see that. lucky you! how much was it, if you don’t mind my asking?
April 27th, 2007 at 12:26 am
it was more of a defective rack it was in the back of the store, located conveniently next to the only mirror in the whole place!! the grayson ended up to be $40.
shopdiary: wow, good deal! and light pink is hard to find.
April 27th, 2007 at 1:41 am
haha me too! I was so tempted to say Yes! I am a part of the “next best thing” (the name of the tv show). I arrived there at 10:10 AM and as we all know, all the leather stuffs were gone..OOH how I hate seeing those ppl who just ‘protect’ their bundle of stuff that has all the gorgeour leather jackets!
and I would so have paid cash if I knew that they were not gonna charge tax :/
Anyways, I got myself:
ryder (dark olive – $15),
drew (black – $25),
maxwell (grey-$10),
toby (dark olive-$10),
gable (dark olive – $10),
defected Franklin (gunmetal-$40) & defected Duncan for ( gunmetal-$25).
And so far I don’t spot defects thou, anyone has a clue what the common defects are?
I’m probably gonna sell the Franklin and maxwell on EBay thou.
And you should always check the pile of clothes behind the cashier register! one girl scored a leather vest (urgh!- was so at the front of the line) at around 12:30pm!
April 27th, 2007 at 9:47 am
I got a defective Franklin too. I thought it was just where the tape was, which showed a small pen mark or something. But it wasn’t until I got home and tried it on in front of a mirror that I saw there was some discoloration in the fabric, slightly noticable. Oh well.
April 27th, 2007 at 10:15 am
As I previously posted- I got charged $500 for the Jesse and Nicole had pointed out it was posted on the wall for $400. I just called- she says it was always $500- the $400 price was for defective jackets. I can’t help but feel like she is not right there was a lot of room for error as it was CHAOS in there- isn’t it posted on the wall that it is $400? Sorry for the rant- but oh well- I did get a great deal!!! Girls- make sure you’re getting charged correctly as you can’t blame them as it is really pandemonium in there!
shopdiary: aw nikki, i would feel bad if this happened to me too. this is a great tip for the rest of us: know your prices before paying! but to be fair, there was only one place where the prices were posted, which was next to the one and only mirror in the place. i hope mike & chris will improve from this next time. my suggestions to m&c:
the rachel pally sale was a more pleasant experience for me.

hi y’all…ok, rundown from round II.
twice the sales people came out with leather jackets and just stood around not knowing what to do with them. go after them!
got there at 10:05am and it was just lovely…maybe 10 girls? no leather.
i realized that i paid $400 for the jesse jacket because it does not have the mc label but the jacket is perfecto. they would not give me a pricelist. so i wrote some more items down:
oscar- 10
mason – 15
charlie fleece- 10
jesse jumpsuit- 10 (LOVE these–got black, gray and olive green)
ryan – 10
tyler – 10
riley – 10
maxwell – 10
oliver – 10
murray – 35
duncan – 50 (i got a faded one and it was $25–they had the full length canvas coats as well for $75 but the color was off) i wonder how hard it is to dye this stuff?
eddie – 25
lucas – 25
noah – 25
toby vest – 10
i made friends with the stock boy, so he kept bringing me sizes even though the salesgirls said there were no more…he even helped me take my stuff to my car!
this was the best sample sale i have ever been to.
oh, i was overcharged on a dwight yesterday so i told them, and they refunded my money without any problems.
got some great stuff in the “press” box–one girl grabbed the last barton as i was about to get it…addison, ethan, logan, barlow, grayson and lucas. deducted $15 off of the sale price.
so lessons for next time:
1- have a master plan. bring three of your friends and have each one focus on one style that you really want.
2- go EARLY (at least 45 minutes) on the first day.
3- bring cash so you don’t pay sales tax.
4- know your size before you get there so you don’t waste time trying stuff on.
5- make friends with stock boy.
6- if you see that an item is on hold, ask if you can have it (that is how i got the jesse).
7- be aggressive with a friendly undertone
8- figure out the parking situation before you get there.
still worth going later today or tomorrow.
shopdiary: excellent tips, nicole! they definitely come in handy for those who haven’t been there yet. thanks for posting the prices too.

I went today (Saturday) and it seems like everything was pretty cleared out. I was really hoping to score one of the Maxwell or Tyler’s but both were gone. I managed to walk out of there with:
1 Oscar
1 Mason
1 Riley
1 Ryan
1Toby
There was definitely NO leather and there were some things that were $15 yesterday and they marked down to $10. All in all it was ok, but didn’t really find what I wanted.
shopdiary: thanks FT. i thought of returning today but the ANTM cycle 3 reruns kept me home. LOL!
April 28th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
hi, don’t know if you la folk know about the 2bfree sample sale (or if this is where i should post this)…i went this morning and it was horrible. so overpriced. hoodies for $80. pants $60. tshirts $40. tanks $20. they were cheaper at loehmanns about a month ago…not worth going.
also, my friend went to the mc sale today and she said there was hardly anything left. she grabbed a black large grayson for me and then let it go because she thought it was too expensive. i about killed her. oh well, i think i got plenty of goods
happy weekend to all.
April 28th, 2007 at 5:13 pm
so I managed to go this morning (I just found out about it yesterday -_-) —how do you keep updated on these events? I dont know where to find them!
Anyway, after reading all the comments last night I just went, hopefully to find something good. Everyone said leather was out, but this morning I saw a girl who bought a black leather jacket!! There was also saw Ethan, and i saw an off-white Grayson.. they also took out a large handful of Franklin coats ($75). Like FashionTherapist mentioned, there weren’t too many available styles, but there was enough to keep people (like me) there for over an hour. The salesgirl there was really helpful and she went back to look anything you asked for (if she was in doubt that there were any left). overall, pretty good for a last-day stop at the sale!
April 28th, 2007 at 6:21 pm
oh! i forgot to add… i overheard the salesgirl saying how (earlier) they even had leather jackets that were exclusive to saks! –anyone lucky enough to snatch one?
April 28th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
haha, i was that girl who scored the leather vest at 12:30pm on thursday. it fits really large so i’m hoping i’ll be able to alter it even though it’s leather or maybe i’ll just shift the buttons more to the side.
i also scored a leather jacket even though i got there at around noon on thursday. it’s the neiman marcus exclusive one. i saw it on the defect rack and and it didn’t have any notes or tags on it but i was hoping they’d give me a discounted price anyway since it wasn’t even on the price list. but i ended up paying $500.
if i had known they had more of the jesse jumpsuit in the back, i would’ve gotten one too but i didn’t see them on the floor.
April 28th, 2007 at 7:25 pm
went there this morning on the last day and it was pretty much cleaned out, though I did happen to snag a large white Grayson! It was apparently one of the last ones, as the salesgirl said she had happened to find that one in the back late yesterday. its one size too big for me, but i’m hoping to shrink it in the wash a bit.
April 29th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
well i went to the sale and I think I got teh creme of the crop lol.
I got 2 jesse leather jackets 1 sm in expresso an 1 xs in wine, 1 clark leather jacket in khaki sz xs and 1 world exclusive leather jacket sz s in green. paid $550 inc tax for them – they said all the leather jackets were that much . Have them posted on ebay right now if anyone interested pls email viccichicky@hotmail.com
April 29th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
does anyone by chance have a jasper leather jacket in size large that they would swap for a clark or jesse in small sizes? my mum desperate for the jasper!!! let me know girlies
April 30th, 2007 at 11:47 am
hi, i am also looking for any of the coats in large or medium to exchange for an xs jesse or clark. the black clark is a press sample in perfect condition without the mikechris label. the blue/gray jesse is missing a button on the collar and MC said they will mail me one this week. i paid full price on the jacket without the label—did you guys that paid $500 for the jackets get press samples as well?
i have a couple people interested in the jackets–feel free to send me your best offer for them. i was hoping to exchange them but if that doesn’t happen this week, i am going to sell them (but don’t want to post on ebay).
nopolarity@yahoo.com
thanks!
April 30th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
I am sooo jealous of you guys! Mike&Chris is one of my favorite designers but I live in NY and wasn’t able to attend. However, I wasn’t even there and am still disgusted by the seller on eBay who has like a million things up from the sample sale with incorrect MSRPs. I feel like sample sales should be a chance for people who can’t afford a designer’s merchandise or for fans, and then if they have buyers remorse and decide to sell on eBay it is no big deal. But not for people to hoard with the intention of profit. Anyway, congrats on your finds!
April 30th, 2007 at 11:45 pm
hi, there are a lot of people that posted on ebay…i have contacted all of them to see if they will do an exchange and most aren’t happy that i know they got their stuff from the sample sale. only one friendly person responded saying how crazy it was, etc.
i noticed that top shop has put a limit on how many items you can buy and they will cancel the order if they think you are buying things to resell them…i think that is fantastic. although i do have an ebay store, it is so annoying whenever there is a limited edition item and it is sold out instantly –check ebay that day and a million appear, i.e. gap white shirt…
i am bidding on two arthur vests right now. this girl has two vests, two llyods and a trench coat!
i am keeping 75% of the items i bought. i love them all and will post pics later.
May 1st, 2007 at 11:33 am
Nicole, I’m really skeptical that you’re “keeping 75% of the items you bought.” I was browsing the shopdiary postings on the M&C sample sale and I came across your description of yourself: 5′7″, brown curly hair, white v-neck top. My friends and I saw you at the sample sale with a mountain of clothes in a cardboard box. You must’ve had at least 50 items, probably more since you had to have a stockboy help you to your car. Given that you have an ebay store (http://stores.ebay.com/Limited-Designer-Collections), i’m really skeptical that you’re keeping 50 M&C items for yourself… unless you’re going to wear keep 2-3 of every style & color for yourself.
May 1st, 2007 at 2:47 pm
hi, yep that was me. and yes, i am keeping most of that stuff for me! the jumpsuits i will sell and i have a belt up right now and a few other things later on but i like their stuff…what can i say? the $10 rack was great. you should have said hi.

Im gonna use the money to buy a jasper in midnight blue yayyy
shopdiary – Vic, check the forum’s Terms of Use. Most forums don’t allow selling of any sort so that’s most likely what got you kicked out.
May 10th, 2007 at 1:00 pm
hi y’all. there are a ton of sample sales in the cooper building today and tomorrow. mike & chris joined forces with grey ant, society for rational dress, etc. i went this morning after i found out about it from daily candy, once again.
the mc stuff was marked up a lot and just leftovers from the ss a couple weeks ago, i.e. the oscar was $35 today. anyone going to the shoe frenzy on saturday?
May 11th, 2007 at 4:03 pm
Kind of late in posting but I just found this site. I just wanted to let Nikki know that she didn’t get overcharged. I got there really early & had a chance to speak to one of the SA at the sale before everyone lined up. She informed me that all of the leather jackets were $500. This is what everyone got charged including myself. I did see some jackets that were marked $400 but those had flaws or damages in someway. I had no idea that I wouldn’t to charged tax if I paid with cash!!! Good to know for next time. BTY Nicole, were you wearing a cap? I saw 2 gals buying a bunch of stuff, I’m guessing it was you!
May 12th, 2007 at 1:20 am
hi, i found out after adding everything up that i paid $500 for both jackets plus tax! so bummed. the jesse was missing a button on the collar so i called them to see if they would credit me and she (jennifer -pr lady and not nice) gave me a long lecture…anyway, they did send me a replacement button after a lot of persistance.
hi twigski–no cap. it was madness in there and people were grabbing as much as they could!
ps- i just bought two arthur vests from someone on ebay for a total of $240–very excited.
May 16th, 2007 at 12:34 am

I went to the Mike & Chris sample sale today and bought a few things that dont fit me. It was so crazy I figured that I’d buy things in my size and hope they fit. Sure enough, even though I bought all my things in one size, some fit and some dont.
* Short sleeved cream leather hoodie
* Antiqued leather arthur cropped leather vest (check out this link: http://www.stylehive.com/person/SecondCityStyle/cropped. )
If you’re interested, let me know and i can take pictures and send them to you. my email: laylabear@gmail.com
