Kate Moss for Topshop Lands in the U.S.

The Kate Moss for Topshop SS07 collection debuted in several Barneys Coop stores across the U.S. today. I went to Barneys in Beverly Hills and arrived a few minutes past 10 AM. Unlike in New York, this Barneys had no lines outside. There were only about 20 people ahead of me and by the time I arrived, the pansy dresses were gone. I expected it to be crazy but it seemed oddly hushed and quiet despite the palpable excitement from those who were there. There were three racks of clothing. Denim pants and short were folded on a table. I was told by an SA that they will be stocking more in the coming weeks. Aside from the pansy dress, I spotted the following:
- Mini Dress with Cutout Neckline
- Tattoo Flirty Dress $200
- Bandeau Dress $180
- Black Victorian Style Jacket $160?
- Muscle Back Tanks $24
- Skinny Cropped Jeans $120?
- Black Skinny Jeans
- Denim Hot Pants $102
- Scattered Sequin Tee
- Gothic Print Tee $40?
- Black Fitted Waistcoat
- Pleated Chiffon Prom Dress in electric blue (I only saw one and someone already had it)
I think there were a few more pieces that I missed. Like I said, the racks were almost empty and I was scouting for the pansy dress. At any rate, the SA also told me to hang out by the dressing area as a lot of people miscalculated their size and found the dresses they picked up were too small for them. And so I did and it didn’t take long before I snagged a size 8, which they say is a size 4 (my size) but in reality fit more like a size 2. A lady who was standing next to me didn’t wait for a dressing room and started changing in the corridor. She tried on a pansy dress in a size 12 and when she announced that she wasn’t taking it and that she would give it to whoever wanted it, I quickly said “I’ll take it!” She then looked at me like she didn’t want to give the dress to me. She didn’t even respond when I thanked her as she handed the dress to me. Haha. Then, unlike everybody waiting in line for a room, I trooped off to the dressing rooms by the denim area which was nearer to where the Kate Moss stuff were and oddly, was deserted. Good thinking because when I left, a line had formed there too. Size 12 fit me so I got it. And then I quickly left Barneys for Opening Ceremony.
Note about the Pansy Dress: Material is flimsy cotton. It fits small so size up. I’m a size 4-6 now and logically, I should have gotten a size 10 which for me, felt tight in the chest and arms area. So if you are busty, forget about it. This was made for Kate Moss waifish types in mind. The size 12 will only fit those with a bust size of 34B or 36A and it’s the largest size that Barneys carries. I’m still undecided whether to keep it. $120 bucks for this cheapo floral dress? Yes, you can say that I got caught up in the moment.
