Trend Watch: Acid Wash Jeans

May 22nd, 2007 Posted in Trend Watch

Are my eyes deceiving me or is Jessica Stam wearing a pair of acid wash jeans? If so, then the 1980s are back in full force. Colored jeans, neon, leggings, skinny jeans…. What else? I almost dread the return of big, crimped hair. Oh, wait! Isn’t that how her hair is styled in this photo? I’ll have to grudgingly admit that she looks cute in this outfit even though it is a bit of a contradiction. She almost looks polished with the black jacket yet grungy with those Doc Martens. This photo was taken in fashion forward Japan so I guess we still have a bit of a breather before this trend hits the U.S. By then I would have overcome my shock and embrace it as if it were a long lost friend.

Some of the trendier sellers on eBay have already kickstarted the look in the US.

And when I was in Target yesterday, I saw hoodies with prints that were obviously copied from the long-running graphics used by sellers like Mamastonevintage. Talk about trickle-down theory in effect!
