Why is Neiman Marcus disparagingly nicknamed “Needless Markup”? I’ve always thought it was due to high prices of the upscale merchandise they carry. Well, while browsing tonight for online deals, I came across a huge price discrepancy between Neiman Marcus and several other online merchants. Other merchants listed the item pictured below with a regular price of $395-$398.95 while Neiman listed theirs at $725 with a sale price at 25% off or $580, which is almost 50% higher than the other merchants’ regular price. I found the same mind boggling markup on these Marc by Marc Jacobs Mary Jane boots. I haven’t had a chance to check for more examples so I can’t conclusively say that these aren’t flukes. What do you think?

Omg wow that’s a huge mark up. I was there the other night [being in cali has to be good for something! haha] and even their sale prices were only like 15% cheaper than the original. So much for a good after christmas sale.

Oooh, it’s a good think I never shop there. I’m sure it’s not a fluke, it’s probably their strategy. I know some grocery stores do the same thing.
