Prada S/S 08: Sasha Pivovarova by Steven Meisel

January 23rd, 2008 Posted in Ad Campaigns

What is a Prada ad without Sasha Pivovarova? The Russian model has fronted Prada ad campaigns for several seasons now, can you imagine one without her? In fact, Miuccia Prada loves Sasha so much that they’ve used multiple images of her for their Spring/Summer 2008 ad campaign shot by photographer Steven Miesel. And I think it works! While I was unsure about the collection when I first saw it on the runway, I absolutely adore the ads. The artwork on the walls by Los Angeles based illustrator James Jean complement the prints on the fabrics and bags. Is that Sasha’s face painted on the wall? And the printed bags! I didn’t notice them on the runway (Update: They weren’t seen on the runway) but now I almost have a yearning to have one, although I have a self imposed ban on buying Prada bags after reading Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster. Those bell bottom pants four photos down look fascinating too. Sure, they won’t look good on me and I don’t have any desire to buy them but I just love looking at them.

Anyhow, enough of the gushing. What do you think of the Prada ads?

I love them! The shoes are not my favorite, but they go well with the rest of the art-themed campaign.

my favorite items are the monochromatic bags and the v-neck dresses with the turtleneck/collar thing.

and it seems prada is upgrading their ads and making them more fun and busy compared to their previous spreads. (like the ones with gemma
just holding shoes or wearing shades)

[...] Prada will be unveiling a short animated film at a private screening on February 5th during New York Fashion Week. The four minute film, Trembled Blossoms, will debut at the Prada Epicenter in Soho and will depict the illustrations of fantastical landscapes, flowers and nymphs seen from the Spring 2008 collection. The four-minute film is the final chapter of Prada’s collaboration with New York City design firm 2×4 and Los Angeles illustrator James Jean, who produced the the prototypical designs for the Epicenter store, the fashion show space in Milan, the diaphanous fabrics and leather handbags.
