Diane Von Furstenberg Sues Target But She Missed This One

I’ve been meaning to post about this since I first spotted this Mossimo tunic in Target several weeks ago but as it is with most of my blog posts, I did not publish it. The print is an exact copy of Diane Von Furstenberg’s Scattered Stone print from her Spring 2007 collection. Forever 21 copied the same print last summer. Now Business Week reports that DVF has sued Target over another print, the Spotted Frog pattern. While she’s at it, she might as well add this one to her lawsuit.

What’s the story behind DVF being copied so often and Forever 21 doing so much copying? It seems like it’s been happening so much that someone would have made it clear by now that either 1) you can be copied or 2) you cannot be copied so this situation doesn’t keep coming up. I’m not saying I like copying, but Forever 21 seems to do it so blatantly that it makes me wonder if they’re really doing something wrong (legally)?
