Diane Von Furstenberg Sues Target But She Missed This One

January 25th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Fast Fashion

Left: Diane Von Furstenberg Scattered Stone Navy Print (via Style.com) Right: Target Mossimo Black: Short-Sleeve Belted Tunic Top in Blue Egg

I’ve been meaning to post about this since I first spotted this Mossimo tunic in Target several weeks ago but as it is with most of my blog posts, I did not publish it. The print is an exact copy of Diane Von Furstenberg’s Scattered Stone print from her Spring 2007 collection. Forever 21 copied the same print last summer. Now Business Week reports that DVF has sued Target over another print, the Spotted Frog pattern. While she’s at it, she might as well add this one to her lawsuit.

Ah, yet another week without Gossip Girl. How are you coping with the hiatus? When will the writer’s strike end?

Anyhow, to fill the void, let’s go shopping for some Gossip Girl clothes! Last week, we featured Serena’s outfits. This time, let’s check out a few pieces from Blair Waldorf’s wardrobe, which are on sale.

Splurge vs. Steal: Black and White Woven Gladiator Sandals

If you fancy Balenciaga’s black and white woven gladiator boot but are a wee bit unsure about committing to a pair and the likely sky high price tag, then perhaps these sandals by Sigerson Morrison will do. They’re a tad understated and wearable while retaining the black and white weave details similar to the high end designer label. However, $495 is not really a steal when compared to Balenciaga’s $700 price tag so it depends on your preference. Proceed with caution though and buy only if you really, really love. Then be prepared to wear them with bright florals. Otherwise, don’t.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Watches in ShopBop.com

My friend’s younger sister was looking for an inexpensive watch and found a Marc by Marc Jacobs watch in a thick silver cuff (not pictured). It’s a really cute statement piece that doubles as a bracelet. The tiny round face is unobtrusive so you when you turn it around to hide the face, it doesn’t look like a watch. Functional and stylish, as are the other offerings from the line. The resin cuff watch is another option for those who prefer a sleeker look. This heart watch charm bracelet is quite kitschy but cute. All are relatively inexpensive from $175-$350 at Shopbop.com.

Project Runway: Ricky’s Winning Design on LevisStore.com

    January 24th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Project Runway

In tonight’s episode, the designers were challenged to create an iconic denim look using Levi’s 501 jeans and Trucker jacket while capturing the originality and creativity of the 501 legacy. So crying Ricky finally wins! He must have shed copious tears of joy as his design is now available as a limited edition piece on LevisStore.com for $168.

The design looks nice, but how many women would buy a figure hugging strapless denim dress? If I were the judges, I would have chosen Rami’s design, which are two separate pieces with zippers used as piping. It looks more sophisticated and versatile than the winning design. Just my opinion and, as Tim Gunn has said, “Chacun à son goût”.

What do you think? Who should have won this challenge? Check out the photos below.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Solid Perfume Ring

When Marc Jacobs Daisy launched last year and I took a whiff of the Eau de Toilette Spray, I liked the scent but was not moved enough to get one. But this limited-edition solid perfume ring is just too adorable to pass up! Wear the oversized ring on your finger or as a bag charm while smelling good at the same time. And perfect timing too because florals are big for spring! $30 at Sephora.

Prada S/S 08: Sasha Pivovarova by Steven Meisel

    January 23rd, 2008 | 6 Comments | Posted in Ad Campaigns

What is a Prada ad without Sasha Pivovarova? The Russian model has fronted Prada ad campaigns for several seasons now, can you imagine one without her? In fact, Miuccia Prada loves Sasha so much that they’ve used multiple images of her for their Spring/Summer 2008 ad campaign shot by photographer Steven Miesel. And I think it works! While I was unsure about the collection when I first saw it on the runway, I absolutely adore the ads. The artwork on the walls by Los Angeles based illustrator James Jean complement the prints on the fabrics and bags. Is that Sasha’s face painted on the wall? And the printed bags! I didn’t notice them on the runway (Update: They weren’t seen on the runway) but now I almost have a yearning to have one, although I have a self imposed ban on buying Prada bags after reading Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster. Those bell bottom pants four photos down look fascinating too. Sure, they won’t look good on me and I don’t have any desire to buy them but I just love looking at them.

Anyhow, enough of the gushing. What do you think of the Prada ads?
