Primary Colored Shoes

March 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Shoes

I still haven’t worn primary colors together in an outfit and I seem to be determined to do so this spring. That’s probably why I’m inexplicably drawn to these red, yellow and blue pairs of shoes. Who knew there would be several smartly designed primary colored shoes not designed for school aged children. Getting a pair like these would probably solve my dilemma in mixing and matching primary colors in an outfit. OK, it’s not rocket science to do so but I didn’t want to end up looking juvenile so I’ve been over analyzing my primary colored wardrobe choices so far. My heart goes out to the Louboutins on the right but they aren’t very practical and will probably be worn only a few times. I’m not quite sure about the pairs from Marc by Marc Jacobs although they’ll probably get more mileage than the Louboutins. So I guess I’ll go with just mixing ‘n matching. Hmmm. Over analyzing much?

Celia Birtwell for Express

Here’s a designer collaboration that has me excited: British textile designer Celia Birtwell will be doing four limited edition collections for Express. Birtwell’s distinctive prints for designer and late ex-husband Ossie Clark gained her international acclaim as a textile designer. The couple were the toast of the fashion industry in the mid-1960s though the early 1970s and dressed the rock and roll set as well as British aristocrats.

From Los Angeles Times:
The Celia Birtwell for Express collection is true to Clark’s style: fluid and sheer, with the flora and fauna that are Birtwell trademarks. A breezy red blouse is covered with Lily, one of her best-known prints. Floating Daisy, her famous psychedelic swirls, appears throughout the line. Clark often used patchwork, a tradition Birtwell continues. The bodice of one dress is splashed with bold flowers, and its billowy sleeves are scattered with delicate buds. A ’70s-style blouse mixes a lightly checked necktie with, yep, more flowers.

Celia Birtwell’s capsule collection for British chain Topshop immediately sold out when it was released in spring 2006. Being stateside, I missed the boat on that one. So I better make sure I won’t miss this one! The first Celia Birtwell for Express collection will be released on April 7 in select stores. In Southern California, that includes the Beverly Center, South Coast Plaza, Glendale Galleria, Brea Mall and Del Amo Fashion Center stores.

I’ve been so busy lately that the Heatherette for M.A.C. launch a few days ago completely slipped by me. Hopefully, they aren’t sold out in stores yet as Racked reports. They are still available online at MACCosmetics.com and NORDSTROM.com. The lipsticks are going quickly though and they are what I’d like to try out. The shade pictured on the left looks like Twig, my favorite pink M.A.C. lipstick shade. I’ve got to get one! If all else fails, I’ll just stick with my lovely sheer Lancome Pixel Pink this spring. Check out The Daily Obsession’s reviews of her favorites from the collection.

    Subversive for Target Now Online

    March 23rd, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Jewelry, Target

Target has partnered with jewelry designer and CFDA nominee for accessory designer of the year Justin Giunta to launch a limited-edition accessories collection, Subversive for Target.

    From the Target Press Release:
The Subversive for Target collection plays on the idea that more is more, and each piece is designed with a concept behind it, so it is both visual and thoughtful. This collection includes an eclectic mix of charm bracelets, delicate drop earrings and bold multi-color block necklaces. Key pieces include the jeweled locket fringe necklace, the tri-strand faux pearl necklace and the red butterfly brooch cuff bracelet. The exclusive Subversive for Target collection ranges in price from $14.99 to $59.99.

There are five collections: Bauhaus Beach House; Birds, Bees, Summer Memories; Boho Victorian; Cactus Cluster; and Visions of Saturn. A standout piece is the necklace from the Visions of Saturn collection (pictured above) which closely resembles the $1600 topaz planetary necklace from Subversive’s original designer line (pictured on the left). Another must have piece is the tri-strand cluster necklace that features multiple charms and contrasting bead shapes.

The Subversive for Target collection is now available online and in stores through July 20.

    3.1 Phillip Lim for Tatami

    March 16th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Shoes

3.1 Phillip Lim has teamed up with German brand Tatami* to bring us spring’s new must-have footwear line. The limited edition collection features the classic deep footbed that embodies Birkenstock’s 234 years of shoe making, while incorporating Lim’s sense of cool sophistication and clever attention to details. Using refined, but luxurious materials like patent black leather, cheetah printed pony fur and scarlet red suede, Lim has created styles that are in perfect harmony with his sought-after label but chic enough to be worn on their own. The collection is available at Barneys New York, Eluxury, La Garçonne, Steven Alan, Otte and soon at Net-a-Porter.

Deals on YSL, Chloe, Balenciaga at SmartBargains.com

    March 10th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Deals, Handbags

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I came upon these discounted handbags at SmartBargains.com today. They’ve got YSL, Chloe, Balenciaga at up to almost 40% off. While the styles are from last year, these are styles that are still selling at full price at Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. And the styles and colors look classic enough not to look outdated by next year. Unless you’re the type to keep track of course (Thank goodness for the demise of the It Bag, it was already getting ridiculous). Now I haven’t shopped here at all, but the general consensus from the savvy gals at the Purseblog forum is that Smart Bargains sells authentic items. It is the online outpost of Loehmann’s. So now I’m very tempted to spring for one of these. The question is, which one? Decisions, decisions…
