On Wearing Neon Colors

If you haven’t heard yet, electric brights are this summer’s must-have accessory. I’ve always been hesitant to wear neon colors, if only because they seem hard to pull off without knowing what to wear them with. I’ve learned that the best way to wear them is to pair them with neutrals like whites, grays, creams or browns. Black provides a nice contrast but can sometimes be too harsh to look at. Neon colors look best when worn sparingly or as accents to an outfit. But don’t let these guidelines stop you from wearing neon colors together if you prefer to do so.
Here are some outfit ideas:
1. This hot pink and red flock of hearts print dress by Marc by Marc Jacobs is worn with cream patent Maloles Zoe ballet flats, a cream Marc by Marc Jacobs Faridah shoulder bag and an ivory acrylic oval bangle by Kenneth Jay Lane.
2. Flourescent yellow patent ballet pumps by Marc Jacobs goes well with a blue t-shirt, Michael Kors broadcloth mini shorts and a cream shoulder bag.
3. This lurex knit cropped blazer with neon yellow trim looks good paired with a cream linen crochet knit top and khaki paperbag waist shorts all by 3.1 Phillip Lim. Complete the outfit with a black Miu Miu Leather hobo bag and black Chloe Perspex panel sandals.
4. Bring a pop of color to a monochromatic outfit with a fuschia Marc Jacobs Rana evening bag. Wear it with a black Marc Jacobs backless corset detail top, a light gray silk flippy skirt by Celine and black Marc Jacobs slingback stiletto pumps.
5. Christian Louboutin’s Privatita platform slingbacks are to die for! Pair these neon green Privatitas with a black Burberry Ivybridge cotton trench, a black Jimmy Choo Marin oversized clutch and gray Splendid kimono sleeve dress.
