DVF on Hautelook.com

June 4th, 2008 Posted in Sample Sales

If you can’t make it to the DVF sample sale in New York City or aren’t willing to brave the crowds, then you might want to hit up Hautelook.com instead. Sure the choices aren’t as extensive (there are 63 items on sale, 5 already sold out), but the convenience can’t be beat. The prices seem to be better too even though the NYC sample sale discounts are advertised at up to 75% off and Hautelook’s are up to 60% off. Wrap dresses are $130-148 (reportedly $175 at the NYC sample sale), regular dresses are $114-$150, pants are $106-$100, blazers are $146, jackets are $170, pants are $110, tops are $76-79. Sure, the prices are not chump change in this faltering economy but Diane Von Furstenberg does know how to make incredibly flattering clothing so they are well worth it, especially now that they’re discounted.

Yes, after being peeved yesterday about not getting my dutch wrap dress, I’m singing a different tune today. That’s because I spotted a dutch wrap dress in a different and much better print, which I tried on at Barneys New York last week but which was only 40% off. I thought it fit really well on me so when I spotted it on Hautelook, I didn’t hesitate to get it.

The DVF sale on Hautelook ends later tonight. You might also want to check out the Rich & Skinny sale today, Love Yaya tomorrow, Velvet on Friday and Splendid on Monday. If you aren’t a member yet, let me know if you need an invitation to join.

I’ve purchased several items on Hautelook, and while the site says that your order will be shipped w/in 7 business days, after the initial order confirmation email I have heard NOTHING, nor have I received my shipment. They were sure quick to charge my card though! Based on my experience, I don’t recomment Hautelook, but if anyone has had a different experience please let me know; perhaps this is specific to the products I ordered, and not Hautelook as a reseller of products?

Hautelook does take forever to ship your order and I found out that they “must first receive the items from the brand before shipping them on to you.” So Hautelook fulfills/ships your order but they must first receive the item from the brand before they can send it to you. They don’t have the items for sale already stocked and ready to ship.

Not a very efficient set-up but here’s what they say in the FAQ:
In order for HauteLook to offer the most styles, the largest quantity of each style, from the most extensive selection of brands at the absolute best prices available anywhere, shipping will take a bit longer. All items are authentic and come directly from our brand partners. When you place your order, HauteLook must first receive the items from the brand before shipping them on to you. Allowing for a 5-7 business day shipping window enables HauteLook the ability to offer the maximum amount of styles brands have.

Do contact them if it has been several weeks since you placed your order. I know now to wait at least 2 weeks before I get my orders in.

I’ve ordered several items from Hautelook (Smashbox makeup and William Rast Jeans). Neither were shipped within 5-7 days (as stated on the site).

One order was delivered, but only 1 item was included; the invoice indicated that I would be credited for the other two items (as they were apparently oversold and out of stock – but I never got a notice saying so); but no credit has appeared on my account. When I called, their records showed that I was only supposed to be credited for the item I actually received!

I’m still waiting for my other order.

So my advice to those of you who are looking to purchase on Hautelook – pay for the expensive, expedited shipping (which hopefully happens as it should!!) or just be prepared to wait weeks (in some cases) before you receive your order. The reps who answered the phone were nice enough, but they didn’t have any answers and didn’t immediately return my calls and NEVER responded to my emails.

      Nightmare!!!!!!!

I have had the worst experience with Hautlook. My order took 4 weeks to receive when the website said it would be 7 days, my order never showed up on the My Account history nor did my return credit. It has been 2 weeks and their customer service has done nothing. I will be making a consumer complaint to the consumer watchdog reporter at my local ABC affiliate in San Francisco, filing with the BBB and with the consumer fraud at the state of california.

Whatever you do dont shop at hautelook.

I didn’t have any problems with my order on Hautelook.com. You just have to know to order in advance. They have so many cute DVF dresses. It’s worth the wait to get the great deals.

Yeah, Hautelook takes FOREVER to ship. Sometimes they are fast, I ordered from the Rachel Pally sale before a couple weeks before Christmas and this time it was very very fast – within 2 weeks.

      I reccoment gilt.com
it’s MUCH better and they have MUCH better sales!
