My Lash Stash

October 19th, 2008 Posted in Beauty

I’ve been trying out different mascaras lately. I have short lashes but with the right mascara and my trusty Shu Uemura eyelash curler, I can achieve dramatic, lush full lashes. My favorite for several years has been Lancome Definicils, the sample size. Somehow the full size doesn’t perform as good as the sample size. I think it’s because of the brush. But my new Holy Grail mascara now is YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils. It lengthens and thickens with each swipe of the brush. Amazing! And the barely there rose scent adds a touch of glamour. I tried Diorshow Iconic but it only lengthens, not thickens so I returned it. I have yet to try the original Diorshow.

Read on more about my lash stash after the jump. Tell me, what is your favorite mascara and why?

From left to right:
Canmake Essence is not a mascara. I got this from an eBay seller from Japan. It helps grow my sparse lashes. It works but I have to be good about putting it on regularly, which I don’t.

Cover Girl Lash Blast and L’Oreal Voluminous work pretty good although I have to admit that when I got YSL Faux Cils, I stopped using these. They are excellent drugstore brand mascaras.

The L’Oreal Carbon Black Telescopic Mascara formula goes on thin so you can swipe as much as you want without clumping your lashes. I use these for my lower lashes. The thin brush reaches my tiny lashes at the corners.

Lancome Definicils sample and full size. My favorite for many years. The full size brush tends to clump and the results aren’t as good as when I use the sample size. Go figure. It now comes in a curved brush so I think I’ll try that.

Shu Uemura Precise Volume Mascara Waterproof in Blue. I got this as a gift. The blue tint is a fun color to use. It’s a great waterproof mascara that goes on well and doesn’t smudge. I also have Shu Uemura Precise Length Mascara (not pictured) in black which performs as well but does not deliver the volume that my lashes need.

YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils is my new HG mascara, which is dangerous as it’s $27.50 a pop. You won’t go wrong with this though and it’s well worth the splurge.

My fav is YSL volume effect because of the scent [and I hate scents 99% of the time] but I’ve been using Coverblast since I got it for free, it’s okay. I guess it doesn’t matter what mascara I use because my eye lashes are ridiculously long to begin with and it’s just my obsession to make them darker.

      lucky you!

I love Lancome’s Cils Booster XL as a base because my lashes are also super short and impossible to work with. I’ve found that it helps lengthen my lashes and makes my lashes look fuller when I add Lacome’s Definicils after. It’s worked for me for the past year or so and has really helped.

Definitely try out the new Exceptionnel de Chanel mascara, I got a sample of it and it makes your lashes sooo thick! But my favorite would have to be Maybelline Great Lash in Blackest Black, it never clumps and it makes my lashes long and not too thick or fake looking. Have fun trying out all these mascaras!

I agree about the Definicils – the sample size is better. I have very short, sparse lashes. After working in a cosmetics department, and being given numerous free tubes of mascara from all major brands, I would say that Dior Show is by far the best for someone like me. I have recently started using Cover Girl Lash Blast and like not as much but better than anything else that I have tried.
