Leifsdottir Fall 2009

March 2nd, 2009 Posted in Fashion

Leifsdottir, Anthropologie’s sister line, is decidedly darker for fall 2009. The pretty, feminine brand created for “the girl who grows up” culls its inspiration from the ancient monastery Mont St Michelle.

The monastery’s strong lines informed the collection’s architectural silhouettes, which include structured coats and jackets and peplum pencil skirts. Unexpected, romantic traces of ruffle and lace, reminiscent of the costume of noblemen past, soften sharp edges. The interplay of fabric and detail is also laden with contrast. Military touches and intricate antiqued gold hardware adorn soft silks and light wools. Additional detail includes accordion pleating, hand-embroidery and hand-smocking. The rich, bold color palette evokes the feel of antique tapestries and oil paintings. Gold, copper and crimson berry weave through shades of brown and violet. Graphic, painterly prints, a mix of historical references, bring their legends and stories to life.

Retail prices range from $68 to $628. Leifsdottir is available at Bloomingdales, Anthropologie and Nordstrom.

ABOUT LEIFSDOTTIR:
The design talent behind Anthropologie debuted Leifsdottir, a sophisticated, wholesale apparel line, for Fall 2008. Johanna Uurasjarvi, Anthropologie’s design director, conceived of Leifsdottir as a sister to Anthropologie with her own personality and point of view.

The label is called Leifsdottir, a traditional Scandinavian surname that translates as “daughter of Leif,” a nod to Uurasjarvi’s Finnish heritage and the value of the past.

Uurasjarvi designs pieces that are timeless and special, so that they give women butterflies the first and every time they see them. The line’s modern-dressmaker sensibility is brought to life by fine fabrics and tailoring and an extraordinary level of detail, touches such as unique trims, vintage buttons and beautiful linings.
