Black Comme des Garçons

June 11th, 2009 Posted in Fashion News

Black Comme des Garçons is Rei Kawakubo’s temporary guerrilla brand conceived as an antidote to the recession. The collection launched last week at two Tokyo department stores, Mitsukoshi in Ginza and Parco in Shibuya. Freestanding stores in New York and Paris will open on June 22 and two week pop-up stands at Barneys New York and Colette in Paris will be among the eleven total “points of sale” that will be opening this month and next. The collection revisits bestselling silhouettes in popular fabrics and finishes, and the label’s usual prints such polkadots, gingham and checkerboard. Prices range from about $84 to $147 for T-shirts and $350 to $623 for jackets. New Yorkers, take note that the 500 square foot Manhattan store will be located at 10th Avenue and 17th Street. Black is expected to last “as long as the recession lasts.”
