Decades Two Shoe Sale

I woke up bright and early today, for a Saturday at least, to make it to the Decades Two shoe sale. I arrived at the Melrose Avenue store at 8:45am and the line had already wrapped around the block on Harper Avenue. That meant about 150 people ahead of me. The doors opened on the dot at 9am but I didn’t get inside the store until around 9:45am due to store capacity limits.
I went straight to the shelf marked 5-5 1/2 which, as expected, had slim pickings. I didn’t see the reported new Manolos and Louboutins but there were several boxes of new shoes from Stella McCartney, Alaia, Givenchy, Balenciaga and more that I forget because none of them were in my size. My poor size five feet! If I recall correctly, there were a lot of size 9-10 shoes but don’t trust me on this because I was busy scoping out the deals for myself. Shoes on consignment were in the $90 and up range depending on the condition. Brand new shoes in boxes were around 60-70% off retail.
There were also five racks of clothing at 50% off the already discounted Decades Two price. I spied a Missoni sweater vest for $150, a black Louis Vuitton coat (or was it a dress?) for almost $400, a cream Alexander Wang sleeveless cashmere (?) cardigan for only $40 (now why didn’t I get that?). There were pretty good deals but it was a matter of finding your size and being the early bird who got first dibs. I heard that they were replenishing stock throughout the day but I don’t know if that is true as the staff were really busy on the floor, including co-owner Christos Garkinos who seemed to be very hands on during the sale.
As for my size five feet, they are happy that I spied never worn size 35 Prada slingback pumps (from Fall 2008) on my second trip back to the 5-5 1/2 shelf (they weren’t there before). I got them at 80% off retail. Success!

In line. Almost there!

Decades Two shoe display: Shoes were on a rotating mirrored disc

Clothing were at an extra 50% off (Not this rack though)

The scene. There’s co-owner Christos Garkinos in the background. He was very busy during the sale.

Beautiful Marni pumps for only $90+. I thought of getting these but they were a bit worn, wide and large (size 6) for my size 5 feet.

Rochas Shredded D’Orsay Pumps $115

There were handbags on sale too. I didn’t look.

Suede Alaia cut out wedges $395. Sadly, none in my size.

Paying for my purchase: only lonely pair of brown Prada sling back pumps. They were the only decend shoes in my size and were 80% off. Bluefly has the same pair in black for only 20% off. Tsk tsk!

The girl ahead of me got these Balenciagas for $150. Lucky!
