Oscars 2007: Haute Couture on the Red Carpet

February 25th, 2007 | 8 Comments | Posted in Celebrities, The Red Carpet

Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé

It was only a month ago when the Spring 2007 couture collections were presented on the runway. Nominations for the 79th Academy Awards were announced at about the same time. Tonight, I spotted a few creations on the red carpet. Having heard about the extensive work that goes into the creation of a haute couture gown, being that it has to be hand sewn, work on the gowns must have started immediately and around the clock. Cate Blanchett looks gorgeous in her metallic gown from Armani Privé. See more celebs wearing Spring 2007 couture gowns after the jump.

Splurge vs. Steal:Black Peep Toe Heels

February 14th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Celebrities, Shoes, Splurge vs. Steal

Splurge: These Christian Louboutin Very Prive peep toe stilettos are stunningly gorgeous. The covered platform with deep red toe is unique, not to mention its signature red sole. The 4 4/5″ heel is fierce. No wonder celebs love it especially on the red carpet. At $700+ a pair, the price is also sky high.

Steal:The Liatris 2 from Nine West is not quite as fabulous as the Louboutins but at $92.95 at zappos.com, it’s a steal!

Celebrity Fashion Faux Pas

February 4th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Celebrities

I’ve been mostly out and about this weekend and haven’t had the time to really digest the runway looks from New York Fashion Week. I’ll be posting my favorites or commentary later. In the meantime, I bring you some celebrity fashion faux pas from the past week.

Everybody’s been saying that Sienna Miller forgot to put on her pants and opted for her underpants instead. I think this was her version of Prada (left) and Giambattista Valli’s (right) runway looks for Spring 2007. She probably wanted to be the first to wear this look off the runway. Fashion icon? Not so much.

Here’s Britney Spears at the Baby Phat fashion show in New York two days ago. Notice the white price tag still attached? Maybe she’s planning to return the dress.

Miu Miu S/S 2007 Ad Campaign

The Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2007 ad campaign images are up on the Miu Miu site, where you’ll definitely see more images of you-know-who. There’s more about the campaign and how Lindsay Lohan was chosen, mentioning her “her unique combination of strength and fragility”. Also included are outtakes from the four-day shoot that show some shots that didn’t make the final cut and that yes, the natural redhead wore a red wig and her freckles were most definitely airbrushed. But thank goodness it wasn’t all about her. There is also a fashion clip of real models going up and down red carpeted stairs shot simulataneously by three cameras from diffent angles.

Golden Globes Early Hits and Misses

January 15th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Celebrities, The Red Carpet

Photos from the Golden Globes red carpet are just streaming in and I couldn’t help but comment on these two famous celebs.

Eva Longoria looks lovely in this midnight blue evening gown by Ungaro. Her updo, jewelry and make-up complement her attire. Those eyelashes are fierce looking. Perfect!

In contrast, almost everything about Sienna Miller looks like a disaster from her uneven tan to her oily looking skin. The braided updo is not helping either. And, as much as I love Marchesa, her gown with silver appliques looks like a cheap bathing suit with extra fabric draped on her neckline and a white flowy skirt wrapped around her hips to camouflage that it, indeed, was once a bathing suit. From the 80s. It does nothing to flatter her great figure. No wonder Sienna doesn’t look very confident. She also looks in need of a shower.

Paris’ LV Bikini: Real or Fake?

January 3rd, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Celebrities, Fashion

Honestly, I couldn’t care less. But pride myself in knowing real Louis Vuittons from fakes. Apparently this expertise of mine does not extend to clothing, much less, swim (or is it beach?) wear. So while last week everybody gasped in delight or derision at the sight of Paris Hilton and her friend toting matching Louis Vuitton Miroir Almas at Australia’s Bondi beach, this week the lingering news is whether the LV bikini she wore is real or fake. Ah, she must be worth the reported $1 million she got for her appearance in Bondi because these photos are almost a week old and people are still talking about it. Good or bad, the girl is a publicity magnet.

So dear readers, what do you think?

M by Madonna

December 7th, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in Celebrities, H&M

H&M just announced that Madonna has collaborated with Margareta van den Bosch, head of design at the fashion giant, to create a line of clothing and accessories called ‘M by Madonna’ that will be launched in March 2007.

‘Madonna has an impressive feel for fashion and trends. She was extraordinarily style conscious, passionate and was involved in even the smallest details of every design. There is no doubt that Madonna’s influence is reflected by the ‘M by Madonna’ line’, stated Margareta van den Bosch regarding the collaboration.

I’m curious to see what the collection will be. I didn’t get a chance to see the tracksuits that she designed for H&M last summer. I heard that the quality wasn’t good and sales were disappointing. So I guess H&M must have immense faith that the next collaboration will be successful.

What do you think? Will you wear M by Madonna?

Update: I must have overlooked these pics in the H&M website but here I found them via The Fashion Spot:

Now that we have the visuals, I’ll have to say that the trench coat looks promising although we’ll have to see in three months if the finished product will hold up to this prospect. So, has this piqued your interest at all?
