Chanel Fall RTW 2008 Video

March 5th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Fashion Week, Video

Here’s a video of Chanel’s RTW Fall 2008 runway show. Towards the end of the video, see the models sitting on huge versions of Chanel’s iconic accessories with each piece bobbing up and down just like it should on a carousel. Incidentally, here’s an interesting interview with Karl Lagerfeld. It’s worth the read, with lots of choice quotes from the legendary designer.

Chanel’s Two Tone Legwear

March 4th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Accessories, Fashion Week

Chanel’s two tone legwear seen on the catwalk in Paris last week look pretty interesting. The nude color looks unassuming when seen from the front and the black half gives a slimming effect when seen from the side. I’m not too keen on the logo but then again, it’s what probably adds interest to what could have been ordinary nude hose.

I’m trying to jog my memory if I’ve seen logoed pantyhose before. I know I have, I just can’t remember when… Update: No, it’s not these ones from Louis Vuitton that I was thinking of.

Chanel’s Amazing Carousel Runway

February 29th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Fashion Week

Via Style.com:
PARIS, February 29, 2008 – A Chanel carousel fitted out with giant quilted bags, camellias, pearls, boaters, and bows faced the audience as it poured into the Grand Palais for the Fall ready-to-wear show. It was a fitting metaphor for the timeless turning of the house classics, and for the unstoppable machine fashion has become these days. The instinct, on arrival, was to prepare to hold on tight. How fast would this thing be set to whiz? How many blur-speed notions would Karl Lagerfeld manage to whip past us this time?

Thankfully, instead of the past few seasons’ bamboozling surges of styles, all that transpired was that the girls walked in a circle, then climbed aboard the turning merry-go-round so that the clothes could be viewed again at leisure. It was worth a second and third look because this was a collection that, in spite of its something-Chanel-for-everyone variety, also provided gimmick-free commentary on current trends.

Via IHT:
PARIS: Fashion may be an eternal merry-go-gound but Karl Lagerfeld made a big statement with the carousel in the center of his Chanel runway on Friday. Instead of the usual fairground seats of sculpted horses, this whirligig was fitted with super-sized bags, shoes, pearl chains, camellias and even Coco Chanel’s signature hat. And at the end of a show, in which the only bag was a tiny egg-sized clutch for evening , the models clung to the giant accessories as the carousel twirled.

Via WSJ:
This morning, models walked around a circular runway, then stepped onto a carousel that was created for the show, where some models sat on oversized shoes and bags. At the end of the show, the carousel began to turn and out came Mr. Lagerfeld, himself in a black double-breasted jacket. He escorted his models out, closing the show.

These Boots Were Made For Walking…

February 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Fashion Week, Shoes

Those Balenciaga F/W 08 boots look interesting from afar…

But up close and by themselves, they look like, uh, used prophylactics. Indeed, the ankle boot versions were paired with printed latex dresses at the end of the show.

Yohji Yamamoto Partners with Hermès

February 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Fashion Week, Handbags

Here I am at home and supposed to be knee deep in a work related project yet I find myself clicking on to Style.com and Elle.com. And before you know it, the Paris runway shows have gotten me engrossed. Ah well, I’m at home anyway…

Style.com reports that Yohji Yamamoto has debuted leather portfolio bags in collaboration with Hermès. The first question that popped into my head was, “Will I be able to finally afford an Hermès?” Probably not yet. At any rate the brilliant avant-garde Japanese designer had an amazing show. He even did the background guitar music. You can watch the runway show below.

And this is odd but did you get a Harry Potter vibe at the end? Ah yah, don’t mind me. Must be the “too much work lately” kicking in.

Prada F/W 2008 Handbags

February 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Fashion Week, Handbags

It’s time to dig into your grandma’s closet. Prada has unveiled a collection made of heavy lace that reminds us of curtains, doilies, drapery or something worn several decades ago. The effect is beautiful however and the use of lace extends to handbags (thankfully, not to shoes!). The ruffled detailing on Prada’s F/W 08 shoes continued on to the bags. Beautiful!

Prada F/W 2008 Shoes

February 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Fashion Week, Shoes

I haven’t had much time lately to pay attention to what went down the runways in London and Milan. But of course, with Prada, which just showed today, it was hard not to. As usual, I tend to zero in on the accessories more than the clothing. Prada’s shoes appear to have fin-like accents at the vamp and heels. Most of them look like artfully placed ruffles. I love it for the originality. They could have done without the nude elastic straps but then those are what probably make the shoes wearable.

What do you think of Prada’s F/W 2008 shoes? Love it or hate it?
