Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

September 16th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Ad Campaigns, Breast Cancer Awareness, Models

Sasha Pivovarova, Daria Werbowy, Lily Donaldson, Lily Cole and Du Juan

Join Fashion Targets Breast Cancer in battling breast cancer by purchasing this limited edition polo shirt designed by Ralph Lauren available exclusively at Net-a-Porter for $75. FTBC is a worldwide charitable initiative of the Council of Fashion Designers of America/CFDA Foundation Inc. Since its launch in 1994, FTBC has raised over $40 million for breast cancer charities in 13 countries. WWD reports that “more products will be unveiled in the coming months from designers including Rachel Roy, Diane von Furstenberg and Oscar de la Renta. The net proceeds from all items purchased, whether in the U.S. or abroad, will stay in the customer’s country. The goal, according to a spokesman, is to raise more than $2 million after one year.”

If the photo above reminds you of this shot from the 90s, it’s because both were shot by Patrick Demarchelier. View the behind the scenes video from the day of the photo shoot here. Sasha smiles but does not speak!

Barneys New York Fall 2007 Catalog

September 16th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Fab Shops, Models

Barneys New York always creates interesting ads and catalogs. You might laugh but I save my Barneys mailers just for the pictures!

You’ve seen the latest ads in US Vogue’s hefty September 2007 issue. Find them and more in the retailer’s Fall 2007 mailer featuring the fabulously thinspirational Du Juan on the cover and Coco Rocha, Heather Marks, and Anja Rubik on the inside pages. (Help! I know I’m missing some names.) Unlike Neiman’s online catalogs though, the photos aren’t clickable with descriptions, prices and, if applicable, links to each item pictured. Regardless, I can’t wait to get my catalog in the mail! Mailer is available only in stores.

More Dish About A Model Life

August 26th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Models, TV/DVD

Angelika, is that you? Looks like the constantly sullen Miss Know-It-All from TLC’s A Model Life has landed herself a cosmetics spot with L.A. based Smashbox Cosmetics. Her morose mug graces the box of Smashbox’s Beauty Book. Meanwhile, Bea has managed to perfect her catalogue look with Macys and Kohl’s.

Anyway, if you’ve been following the show, as I have, you might be curious to know what will happen at next week’s finale. Spoiler alert! Don’t click unless you want to know.

A Model Life: The Girls That Made it To Fashion Week

August 20th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Models, TV/DVD

And since we’re on topic about A Model Life and this was pretty much revealed from the last episode, the girls that have made it to New York Fashion Week last February are: Angelika and Valeria for Jenni Kayne, Michelle for Nicole Miller and Abby and Angelika for Chris Habana. Looks like Lucia or Beatrice didn’t make it.

I Thought She Looked Familiar

August 19th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Models, TV/DVD

Speaking of Mike & Chris, I thought that Angelika of A Model Life looked very familiar especially seeing her decked up in Mike & Chris hoodies all the time on the show. Call me envious!

No wonder. I collaged the whole Mike and Chris Summer 2007 collection just last month with 20 images of her. I think she suited Mike & Chris’ edgy vibe. Too bad for her that they didn’t call her back for their Fall 2007 collection.

Love it or Hate it: Gemma Ward in Balenciaga

Models usually rock the red carpet and runway without much effort and still look amazing. As they very well should as it’s what they do for a living. But what is happening here with Gemma Ward wearing an outfit from Balenciaga’s Fall 2007 RTW collection? Is it her dark roots or stringy hair? Is it her blah makeup? Can we really blame her for not looking 100% confident in those open toed boots? Or is her outfit really hideous and I’m just not saying it because it would almost be sacrilegious to blast Balenciaga? This could also be what it must be like to be without the benefit of the right hair, makeup and style experts. When you’re someone in the public eye, or know that you’re going to be photographed for the whole world to see, your mantra should be “Don’t leave home without them!”

What do you think? Love it or hate it? And why?

Gisele Bundchen in W July 2007

June 17th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Magazines, Models

Gisele Bündchen models big hair, bold colors, 80s broad shouldered jackets, and stacked bracelets in the July 2007 issue of W. It is this photo that seems the most striking among several photos, including the cover. Ah, perhaps it is for those of us who are just not ready to see the resurgence of 1980s big hair.

From Stunning to Boring

April 12th, 2007 | 5 Comments | Posted in Models

Remember Yoanna House? She won America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 2. With a stunningly beautiful face like hers, how could you go wrong, I thought.

Well, look who’s just had a makeover. And a bad one at that.

I know. I couldn’t believe it either. She looks like a cross between Lindsay Lohan and Teri Hatcher with Mena Suvari’s bangs. And that is not good. Hopefully she’ll come to her senses and return to the fierce look she had to begin with. Or at least remember not to smile like Teri Hatcher. To be fair, I just found recent photos from her modeling portfolio with IMG and she doesn’t look as bad as the photo above. There’s still hope for her.

Does She Stand A Chance Because She Looks Like Stam?

April 8th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Models, TV/DVD

If character was part of the judges’ criteria in America’s Next Top Model (ANTM), then “resident bitch” Cycle 8 contestant Renee would have been long gone. But, as ANTM judge Twiggy has said countless times, she looks like a model. And it IS a modeling competition.

What better model to be compared to than “supermodel” and Marc Jacobs muse Jessica Stam? Granted, Renee is a low rent version of Jessica. And with slim pickings this season, I wouldn’t be suprised to see Renee in the top three. Which really doesn’t mean anything as we all know that joining the show is career suicide for anyone who actually wants to work in fashion and the highlight of your career is a 10 second Cover Girl commercial shown only on ANTM.
