Fun with the Marc Jacobs Skunk

April 13th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Fab Shops, Out and About

Get your free photos taken at Marc by Marc Jacobs stores and have fun with the skunk. You get free high quality prints and the chance to order more online. Your photos get posted on the store windows as well.

I didn’t know about this event until I dropped by the Melrose Avenue store yesterday. Seems like Marc by Marc Jacobs does this every spring and winter. More photos and info here.

While the girls in the photo on the left look pretty cool in their Marc by Marc Jacobs outfits and accessories, I’m guessing they’re models as this video shows. So it’s safe to assume that you can’t “borrow” them for the photos. But maybe if you ask nicely, you could.

Guess Who I Saw at Barneys NY Yesterday?

April 13th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Celebrities, Out and About

Why, it’s Nicole Richie. I was talking with the SA in Goyard about the paps outside and how I just saw Lindsay Lohan, who was waiting for the elevator I got out of, when Nicole walks over to us and asks to see an agenda or wallet from the glass case. She is pretty. She’s got nice skin too.

Too surreal, especially for me who never spots celebs unless they’re right in front of me.

Murakami at MOCA

I got a chance to visit the Takashi Murakami retrospective at The Geffen Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles on Saturday. This was my first time to view Murakami’s artworks up close and it was interesting seeing more than 90 of them in various media including painting, sculpture, film and installation. What a prolific artist! Murakami is also successful with his commercial projects with Kaikai Kiki and Louis Vuitton, the latter having a temporary boutique set up in the second level of the museum. The boutique displays a range of handbags and accessories featuring Murakami’s brightly hued logo designs and, of course, sells limited edition handbags, wallets and agendas. The exhibit runs through February 11. If you are not a MOCA member, I suggest buying your tickets online and printing your receipt for will call tickets to bypass the long lines. Check out Notcot’s pictures from the Gala Opening. More photos on Flickr and after the jump.

M by Madonna for H&M

March 26th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Celebrities, Fab Shops, H&M, Out and About

I stopped by H&M in Pasadena to check out the M by Madonna collection two days after it debuted. I wasn’t keen on anything specific from the line. I just wanted to report back on what I saw and observed. First off, the whole section of M by Madonna was well stocked. The photo above shows the sequined dresses that sold out in some stores. There are still a lot in this store and I didn’t see anybody pick them up while I was there. Almost every item from the collection was available except for the turbans, which completely sold out in this store. Another thing I observed was that people did not linger long in this section. People checked the goods then moved on. Catwalk Queen’s post echoes my observations and sentiments exactly.

What did I like? The clutches in silver or black were a nice surprise. They are cute for a night out on the town. It’s got a slinky hidden strap. It’s tiny though and will only fit a lipstick, a tiny compact and some dollar bills. I tried on the kimono dresses. They are OK but are cut so low in the front, I had to think hard as to when I could realistically wear them. The patent stacked heels are great. But as usual, they didn’t have my size.

Let’s Go Shopping: At Zara

Zara has stocked their spring clothes in the stores already. Too bad there’s not much to see on their website, which still has photos of winter coats. So I took my camera with me and tried on a few dresses. Yes, only dresses and most of them in prints. I’m getting ready for spring, I tell ya! Here they are with my random comments.

Zara’s take on Diane Von Furstenburg’s Payne dressicon. Nice colors. The grosgrain ribbon strap looks awkward when worn though. Bra strap can show.

Out and About in Beverly Center

February 11th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Fab Shops, Fashion, H&M, Out and About

I went to the Beverly Center yesterday to check out H&M’s Spring Inspiration collection. What a disappointment! Most of the items were sold out and if they were there, it wasn’t in my size. They had a bunch of jumpers which I didn’t want. There were a few blue jean dresses but none in my size. I was told that the collection had sold out quickly. The store is huge and fully stocked but mostly with basic items like tees and jeans and boring work pieces. I spotted this top/dress but there was only one left and not in my size. So I only tried on two pieces:

The black eyelet dress is part of the Spring Inspiration line. It was my size but boy I was swimming in it. It was the only one left. The one on the right fit OK but I decided that I had enough of black. So I left the store, again, empty handed! Maybe I should go to the H&M store in Pasadena next time.

The photo on the right is my attempt at taking a photo of what I wore yesterday. I don’t think I can take regular snaps of myself in my outfits but I’ll try.
Top: Proenza Schouler for Target V-Neck Trapunto Top in black jersey
Bottom: JBrand 12″ in dark vintage
Shoes: BP. Edie glitter ballet flats
Bag: Balenciaga Matelasse

I also took pictures of some store windows at Beverly Center:

For all you Hello Kitty fans, there is a store in Beverly Center called Momoberry by Sanrio. Momoberry is “Hello Kitty with a twist - breezy, quirky, stylish, a little older and surprisingly sophisticated. Sanrio’s newest boutique features unique accessories, clothing, custom fragrances, cool collections from great designers, plus Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters on products you won’t find anywhere else!” I didn’t go in to check out the goods though so I can’t report on that.

At Louis Vuitton is this gorgeous new red color called “Pomme d’Amour”. Just in time for Valentine’s, this color is available in Monogram Vernis. I have a red Monogram Vernis Houston from many years ago that is a lighter shade than Pomme d’Amour which is a deeper, richer shade of red. Looks nice!

Window Shopping on Robertson

Sale, sale, sale!
Lisa Kline on Robertson

I finally got a chance to drop by here…
Tory Burch on Robertson

…and try on several pairs and sizes. I liked black patent the best. And found out that size 5 1/2 fits me better than a 5.

Here are new colors: chocolate brown in patent (L) and silver (R)

So what did I get? Unfortunately, there were no black patents in my size. Just last week, they got a shipment of black patents and they sold out on the same day. I also liked the chocolate patent and silver pictured above, but again, they did not have them in my size. So I left my info to charge send a pair of black patents if and when they get them. And tonight, I just ordered these gold suedes online. :-)

Out and About in Hollywood

August 19th, 2006 | 6 Comments | Posted in Out and About, Street Style

I did some traipsing around Hollywood and Highland today. It’s steps away from Mann’s Chinese Theatre and a block away from Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. This block on Hollywood Boulevard is a veritable tourist magnet. The fashion that I spotted there was everyday casual clothing. Nothing inspiring or avante garde.

I spotted a lot of logos - on sunglasses and handbags - and bra straps peeking out of halter tees.

The girl in pink had a white scarf on her neck. I thought it was cute. Maybe she had a sore throat.

Ordinary khakis and jean jacket. Little girl in a babydoll top and boot cut jeans.

And dare I say this? I also spotted lots of fake boobs. I guess it’s nothing new in L.A. but it’s certainly something that I’ve become more aware of lately. But like I said, nothing fashion forward here. Those that I spotted in Santa Monica a few weeks ago were more interesting so much so that I would look and admire and forget to take a photo. Much of that is also probably because I’m still too shy to ask for a photo. By the way, I added Street Style Blog links on the sidebar. Check them out. Very interesting.

I also stopped by Gap to check out their customized T-Shirt Event.

The place was dead. They had greeters with trays of popcorn at the door. But there were hardly any people walking in on a Saturday afternoon in a store located in a very busy, touristy corner in L.A. Where did Gap’s customers go? Anyhow, I’m not into screen printed tees so I didn’t buy any. I was more interested in seeing activity in the store as I haven’t been there in awhile.

Here’s a photo of me in front of a Banana Republic store window. I was wearing a black and white poppy Paul and Joe top, a thick black patent belt from Aldo, trouser style shorts from Zara and peep toe patent wedge shoes from Mossimo and a black Chloe Silverado handbag.

Maybe next week I’ll have something better to report when Cusp opens. Until next time!
