Out and About in Santa Monica

July 31st, 2006 | 6 Comments | Posted in Miscellaneous, Paparazzi

We met up with friends yesterday afternoon at Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. There you’ll find an eclectic mix of people from all walks of life walking down the street. It is an interesting place to people watch as you can see in these photos. I brought my DSLR with me and, all afternoon, I had this urge to shoot street shots yet I felt I had the need to ask permission first. Ah, the opportunities that went by.

I took photos of the stores instead.
Benetton

Diesel

Zara

How lame. And I didn’t even shop at all. Not even at Zara. Why? The summer clearance items had been picked over and it’s too warm to shop for fall. Also, I planned to go to the Target pop-up store on Melrose Place and La Cienega to check out the Paul & Joe line for Go International but we ended up in Santa Monica instead. Ooh, wow. I guess I’m finally becoming resistant to the lure of a sale. Hooray!

Sorry for this pointless post. I’m going to bed now. Good night!

Paparazzi Style

I took these paparazzi style shots at a tiny enclave in the Monterey Peninsula called Carmel-by-the-Sea. Sounds charming, eh? At any rate, I’m not bold enough to approach people for photos yet like The Sartorialist or Style Bubble so I here are a few surreptitious shots.

I saw this couple walking up the beach where it was overcast and a bit cold. My eyes were just drawn to them. I like the girl’s understated look. It is probably boringly good, but still good. I took two snaps of them. She had her hair up then. They walked back to the beach later and here is the result.

I saw this tall Japanese girl sashay down Ocean Avenue and an electric blue dress and floppy hat. Definitely paparazzi worthy. I had the perfect frame as she was walking by (I was in my car) and then I realized too late that my flash was on (and my tinted windows were up). By the time I turned the flash off, this was the best, and only, photo that I could manage.

Still here by the beach. Have a great weekend everybody!
