…and parted to one side.

Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé
It was only a month ago when the Spring 2007 couture collections were presented on the runway. Nominations for the 79th Academy Awards were announced at about the same time. Tonight, I spotted a few creations on the red carpet. Having heard about the extensive work that goes into the creation of a haute couture gown, being that it has to be hand sewn, work on the gowns must have started immediately and around the clock. Cate Blanchett looks gorgeous in her metallic gown from Armani Privé. See more celebs wearing Spring 2007 couture gowns after the jump.

It’s always interesting to see how runway looks translate to the red carpet. Here are side-by-side photos of celebs at the 2007 Grammy Awards and models at previous ready-to-wear runway shows. What do you think? I’ll be adding more photos as I find them.

in Roberto Cavalli - Ciara vs. Flavia De Oliveira

in Michael Kors - Mary J. Blige vs. Lily Donaldson

Photos from the Golden Globes red carpet are just streaming in and I couldn’t help but comment on these two famous celebs.
Eva Longoria looks lovely in this midnight blue evening gown by Ungaro. Her updo, jewelry and make-up complement her attire. Those eyelashes are fierce looking. Perfect!

In contrast, almost everything about Sienna Miller looks like a disaster from her uneven tan to her oily looking skin. The braided updo is not helping either. And, as much as I love Marchesa, her gown with silver appliques looks like a cheap bathing suit with extra fabric draped on her neckline and a white flowy skirt wrapped around her hips to camouflage that it, indeed, was once a bathing suit. From the 80s. It does nothing to flatter her great figure. No wonder Sienna doesn’t look very confident. She also looks in need of a shower.

FabSugar posed this fun question recently: Let’s pretend we’re going to tonight’s Golden Globes awards show: what’s a girl to wear? Now I’ve got the Californian laid back style down pat, but who doesn’t like dressing up once in awhile? I readily took to the challenge.
So let’s assume that I have to walk the red carpet , I have no stylist and I have less than 24 hours to come up with my outfit. That leaves me with limited choices, so no bespoke gowns for me. Let’s also assume that I am tall and statuesque because the outfit that I came up with requires such proportions to carry it well on the red carpet.
First off, I started looking for the dress. I chose this floor length tiered gown from Carmen Marc Valvo because this was the best that I’d found so far since I started looking. I would have preferred something lighter but remember my contraints? At any rate, since I’m tall and statuesque (ahem), I think this midnight blue strapless gown would look fantastic on my killer bod. The pleated satin, black lace tiers and blue streaks make a great combination.
