Peep Toe Ankle Boots

March 8th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Shoes, Trend Watch

They were impractical last fall/winter but get ready to embrace peep toe ankle boots/oxfords/shoes this spring. Here are some styles from top designer labels. I almost got those Givenchys at the Barneys New York Warehouse Sale were it not for missing shoe laces.

What do you think of this shoe style? Love it or hate it?

Ombré Tights

Here’s something you can take from the couture shows in Paris that you can actually wear and afford: Christian Lacroix’s ombré tights. In fact, you don’t have to wait for them to be stocked in stores. You can actually make them yourself. Check out Fashionista and Style Bubble’s DIY projects. Pretty cool, eh?

Would You Wear Pantyhose?

November 25th, 2007 | 8 Comments | Posted in Trend Watch

Pantyhose. I thought I would never hear that word again. But as noted by L.A. Times, flesh toned stockings were spotted on recent runway shows and seems to be making a comeback. Say it ain’t so! I love bare legs especially in the scorching heat of summer. I can’t even imagine wearing them with open-toed shoes, as required of UPS’ female corporate staff. But I am not opposed to them as long as they are not the thick, granny-type hose. Thank goodness I work at a place with a business casual dress code that does not require wearing pantyhose everyday!

What about you?

Trend Watch: Square Shoulder Pads

October 14th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Trend Watch

We’ve seen them on the catwalk and among the fash pack elite. But nothing validates the resurgence of big shoulder pads more than when French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfield is spotted wearing them. The trickle down effect starts now. Expect to see more of them next year. One piece of advice: please don’t wear them with saggy bottoms like these!

Trend Watch: Acid Wash Jeans

May 22nd, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Trend Watch

Are my eyes deceiving me or is Jessica Stam wearing a pair of acid wash jeans? If so, then the 1980s are back in full force. Colored jeans, neon, leggings, skinny jeans…. What else? I almost dread the return of big, crimped hair. Oh, wait! Isn’t that how her hair is styled in this photo? I’ll have to grudgingly admit that she looks cute in this outfit even though it is a bit of a contradiction. She almost looks polished with the black jacket yet grungy with those Doc Martens. This photo was taken in fashion forward Japan so I guess we still have a bit of a breather before this trend hits the U.S. By then I would have overcome my shock and embrace it as if it were a long lost friend.

Seeing Red

Remember my new bag? Well, it looks like I’m not the only one toting a red handbag this spring. Evidence of this was snapped by Bill Cunningham of the New York Times: The ladies of New York love their red bags!

Would You Wear A Turban?

April 4th, 2007 | 8 Comments | Posted in Accessories, Trend Watch

The fash pack have been wearing Prada satin turbans or a modified version of it for several weeks now. The Prada turbans are quite pricey for a passing fad at $300 $600 or more so I knew it was only a matter of time before lower priced versions would be available.

First off, is this M by Madonna for H&M jersey turban. Only $12.90 but already sold out everywhere.

Our favorite fast fashion chain does not disappoint. Forever 21’s satin headwrap looks very similar to the modified version worn by Ashley Olsen. They also come in brown and cream satin and a commitment free price of $5.80. And should you be iffy wearing it ala Ashley, you can also wear it as a headband.

Finally, here are cotton jersey “turban headbands” from ShopIntuition. They are not satin or even jewel toned like Prada’s but they come in fun spring colors and are $35.

So tell me, would you wear a turban this spring? Yay or nay?

Trend Alert: Dark Hued Nail Polish

August 16th, 2006 | 3 Comments | Posted in Beauty, Trend Watch

Le Vernis Nail Colour in Black SatinBlack is back for fall and winter and, apparently, the trend extends to nail color as well. Chanel’s limited-edition Le Vernis Nail Colour in Black Satin is reportedly sold out. Like its name suggests, it’s black with a silvery shimmer. You can still get it on eBay for twice the price or more. Other similar shades are MAC Nightfall, Creative Nail Design Voodoo, OPI Black Onyx, and Essie Licorice.

Le Vernis Nail Colour in Rouge NoirIf you think black is too goth looking, you can go for other deep dark shades with brown or red hues. Chanel’s highly popular Vamp comes to mind. It is a sexy black red with purplish undertones that was the rage back in 1994. Take note that the original Vamp is now called Rouge Noir. Other similar shades are Essie Wicked #249, E.L.F. Rachel’s Brick House, Creative Nail Design Fedora, Maybelline Wet Shine Succuent, Revlon Vixen, MAC Vintage Vamp, OPI Black Magic Mountain, OPI Mrs. O’Leary’s BBQ, and Isa Dora Midnight Red.

Keep in mind that dark nail polish is more obvious when chipped so base and top coats are essential to keep the color longer. When wearing this color, keep your nails trimmed and short like super chic Gwen Stefani does.

No long talons like Victoria Beckham, please, or you run the risk of looking tacky. I’ll have to grudgingly admit that she has lovely fingers though. Or is it the way she’s holding them up?

Have fun with this trend! If all else fails, you can always wipe it off with nail polish remover.
