Will You Embrace Black Lace?

August 15th, 2008 | 7 Comments | Posted in Trends

One of the big trends we’ll be seeing this fall is black lace. You’ll have to thank, or blame, Miuccia Prada and a handful of designers who made use of the heavy black lace (called guipure lace) seen on the runway last February for this. Here are few items of note including false eyelashes by shu uemura (yes, you read that right). Black lace is beautiful to look at. Just remember not to overdo it by wearing it head to toe. And even if you’ve got gorgeous legs, stay miles away from these! Uggh!

Tortoiseshell Accessories

July 21st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Trends

Make a sophisticated style statement with tortoiseshell accessories. Let your shoes be the focus with super-sleek Giuseppe Zanotti mottled heels or Christian Louboutin ballerina patent flats. Or go for a more traditional accent with a pair of chic sunglasses by Oliver Peoples and Marc Jacobs. You’ll also find clutches, cuffs, watches, make-up compacts and hair brushes made out of tortoiseshell. Who knew?

On Wearing Neon Colors

May 10th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Trends

If you haven’t heard yet, electric brights are this summer’s must-have accessory. I’ve always been hesitant to wear neon colors, if only because they seem hard to pull off without knowing what to wear them with. I’ve learned that the best way to wear them is to pair them with neutrals like whites, grays, creams or browns. Black provides a nice contrast but can sometimes be too harsh to look at. Neon colors look best when worn sparingly or as accents to an outfit. But don’t let these guidelines stop you from wearing neon colors together if you prefer to do so.

Big bows or small bows, several necklines seen on the New York runways for fall 2008 were sporting bows. Most of them were tied and one was sewed on.

We love the flourish of big bows although they are a bit tricky to pull off. Make sure the bow is in proportion to your height and size or it could look overwhelming.

Actress Gywneth Paltrow sported the look last night at he Gucci benefit for ‘Malawi and Unicef’.

Seen on the Runway: Elbow Length Gloves

February 1st, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Fashion Week, Trends

It’s still to early to predict trends seen on the runway in New York but a common item that I noticed from four shows yesterday are elbow length scrunched up leather gloves. They go very well with the slim knee length skirts, which looks to be another trend for Fall 2008. If you must have these gloves, now is the best time to buy them when they are on sale or on clearance. They might be hard to find though as all I’m seeing are satin (too wedding/opera/prom) and patent gloves (too working girl). What do you think of elbow length gloves?

Trend Watch: PVC Shoes

It looks like the clear plastic/PVC trend shows no signs of abating. We’ve seen it on handbags, now we’re seeing it on shoes. Perhaps the leftover strips from the handbags were put to good use? Thankfully, these shoes are covered where it matters: the toe and the heel. But do the leather trim and visible logo justify the price? You be the judge.

Fashionista Loves Shop Diary!

April 12th, 2007 | 6 Comments | Posted in Fab Blogs/Sites, Fashion, Trends

Haha! Just kidding. Actually, Fashionista is mocking me. But they’re right. The Tory Burch version is so much better than J. Crew’s, which is unflattering. An extra small makes me look wide as a whale. Yummi Sushi, you were right. I now have buyer’s remorse. In hindsight, it was the saffron color that got me all excited. Yes, the color. By the end of summer, I’ll be so over yellow. I just know it.
