Visionaire 54 Sport + Lacoste

Visionaire launched issue 54 SPORT, its first wearable publication, in collaboration with Lacoste in Paris last summer and in Asia last November and released it in November/December 2008. Using the most advanced printing technologies, Visionaire produced full-coverage, full-color, photographically-printed Lacoste polo shirts featuring artwork by photographers Nick Knight, Peter Lindbergh, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin with M/M (Paris), Phil Poynter; artists Thomas Demand, Thomas Ruff, T.J. Wilcox; designer Karl Lagerfeld; filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar; musicians David Byrne, Michael Stipe; and painter Richard Phillips.

Visionaire 54 comes in four sets. Each of the four different sets contains three printed Lacoste polo shirts embedded within its pages: one large, one medium, and one small, as well as a book featuring all twelve images.

I’m a bit late posting about issue 54 as issue 55 is already out, but I’m fascinated with these videos below from Visionaire (featuring model Coco Rocha) and Lacoste (showing close ups of each shirt).

Set I contains artwork by Nick Knight (large polo), Karl Lagerfeld (medium), and Michael Stipe (small). Set II contains artwork by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin with M/M (Paris) (large polo), Thomas Demand (medium) and David Byrne (small). Set III contains artwork by Peter Lindbergh (large polo), Thomas Ruff (medium) and Pedro Almodóvar (small). Set IV contains artwork by Richard Phillips (large polo), T.J. Each set is $250 at Barneys New York, among several distributors. It’s also on Amazon for a bit less at $229.46. Not a bad price since you get three shirts in one set on a limited edition run. And as Coco Rocha demonstrated, size is not a problem.
