Storefronts: Robertson Boulevard

May 27th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Storefronts

Robertson Boulevard is fast losing its reputation as a quaint indie boutique shopping district with the imminent arrival of big guns like Chanel, Ralph Lauren and D&G. The trendy tree-lined street in West Hollywood is best known as a paparazzi magnet where young starlets are usually caught shopping and eating.

Will this homogenization bode well for this fashion row du jour? Kitson owner Fraser Ross told WWD, “The rents on Robertson are getting a little ridiculous and the street is getting a little more corporate, so it was time to aggressively expand elsewhere.” Kitson, one of the hippest shops on the street, is not moving but it’s definitely not putting all its eggs in one basket, so to speak.

Thank goodness those rumors of a Coach Legacy boutique did not come to fruition!

Kitson and Lisa Kline Sidewalk Sales

I happened to be out and about on Robertson Blvd on Saturday when I chanced upon two separate sidewalk sales at Kitson and Lisa Kline.

The Kitson sale was held in a courtyard next to the new store across the street from the original location. It was a quiet event as shoppers trickled in and checked out the sale. Most of the items were priced at about 50% off: brown and silver gladiators were $78, L.A.M.B. Darrel Pumps $185, Milly jackets $180, Goldenbleu and Michael Kors patent bags went for almost $300. I wasn’t dazzled by any of the items or prices and my enthusiasm dampened when security came by and asked me to stop taking photos.
